The Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian Cultural Center for Civic and Social Engagement
About the Center
The C.T. Vivian Center of Civic and Social Engagement -a non profit 501(3)c, is being planned at the site of C.T. Vivian’s boyhood home on Macomb, Illinois east side. It will focus on programming aimed at promoting civic and social engagement through research, professional development, and advocacy for policy change.
The idea for the Center was founded in 2021 with the initial concept from Mr. Byron Oden- Shabazz, president and founder of the Reverend C.T. Vivian Project to create a center of civic and social engagement at the site of C.T. Vivian’s childhood home on Macomb’s east side. Mr Oden-Shabazz has previously labored to have 2 historic markers placed at the site. The goal is to create a center that will work to change the conversation about civic and social engagement.
The Center has also received support from Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, Macomb Community Foundation, Denise Morse (Daughter of C.T. Vivian) Al Vivian (Son of C.T. Vivian)
